What is "looksmaxxing"?
I had heard of this before but I must have forgotten, because when I read about it in a NYT article last weekend I was fascinated.
The article was about a guy named Braden Peters, who goes by the name "Clavicular" online. According to my google search, he is a "20-year-old streamer on Kick and TikTok, known for promoting extreme, often dangerous methods to alter facial structure (bone smashing) and using substances to maximize physical attractiveness."
Yikes! I mean my initial thoughts were- this is insane and scary. Who would smash their own bones to alter their facial structure?!
My secondary thoughts were to pause and reflect. Because even as a woman who would never consider anything like this (bone smashing and injections) to look better, am I not also "looksmaxxing?" Aren't we all looksmaxxing?
And when I say "looksmaxxing" I don't mean you need to get botox or fillers to look great. But isn't wearing makeup a form of looksmaxxing? Aren't doing your hair, wearing a flattering outfit and smiling forms of looksmaxxing as well?
So I decided, I'm going to create my list of what I do currently (as a 43 year old woman) to "looksmaxx." (And if you have other things you do- please comment- would love to hear them!)

My "looksmaxxing" list:
Work out every day
Take collagen supplements and other vitamin supplements
Don't smoke or drink alcohol
Wear makeup (in my best shades of course)
Take showers daily
Blow dry and do my hair (most days!)
Wear a flattering outfit- in my colors and best silhouettes-- and fits with my style personality
AM and PM Skincare routines - using ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, peptides etc
Brush teeth and floss multiple times a day
Eat semi-healthily (I could always improve on this one)
I'm probably forgetting some but that's all I got at the moment!
Here's my "bonus" list- when I'm feeling like I need extra "looksmaxx":
Paint my nails
Curl my hair
Wear heels
Get fancy-dressed up (ie fancy dress/ skirt etc)
