What I Learned at a NYC Styling Conference
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a styling conference in NYC! It was so much fun connecting with fellow stylists and learning from industry experts. I came away with lots of great insights and wanted to share a few takeaways with you!
3 things I learned (and want you to know!):
There’s still a place for in-person shopping. We do so much online shopping these days, but there’s something to be said for seeing an item in person. You can try it on, feel the fabric, examine the details, and assess the fit and quality before buying. Plus, no worrying about returns!
Look at the details! The little things can make a big difference in how expensive and well-made a garment looks. Pay attention to:Stitching: Are the stitches neat, even, and secure?Seams: Do they lie flat and look well-finished?Hardware: Are the buttons, zippers, and other details sturdy and well-made?Functionality: Does the garment work for your everyday needs? For example, a two-way zipper on a long winter coat makes it easier to sit comfortably without feeling restricted or bulky.
Pay attention to fabric. Fabric can tell you a lot about a garment’s quality. Try these tips when shopping:Hold the fabric up to the light to see how opaque it is.Gently stretch it to see how it holds its shape.Feel the texture and weight of the fabric.Consider how it drapes and whether it looks and feels substantial.
Little things can have a big impact on how you shop and build a wardrobe you love! And if you want to learn many many more tips on styling yourself, I'm very happy to share......
