Why I Became a Personal Stylist

(Again, let me preface this by saying- it's me, not AI writing it, so don't judge the writing too harshly lol)

I never saw myself becoming a personal stylist. I was someone who struggled for years to figure out my style (not to mention my best colors) and it wasn't for lack of trying!

One thing I tried was reading. I read lots of books, articles, magazines, etc on how to 'look stylish' or 'dress like a French woman' and none of them helped much, other than to teach me that whatever I was doing was wrong. But I still didn't know the right way to 'be styled.'

I also shopped. I shopped a lot. I love shopping, so this was never painful for me in the moment- mostly because I was always on the hunt for a good bargain. But bargains aren't always as good as they first appear. The victory of getting something on sale doesn't feel so victorious when the item still has tags on in your closet a year later.

Another thing I tried was having people help me shop. That felt like it helped in the moment but not so much in the long run.

I also tried Stitch Fix. I thought it would 'fix' my style. Alas, I ended up with a bunch of cheap work shirts that I didn't love and didn't look great.

Here's the thing that changed everything:

One day in the library, I stumbled across the book "Color Me Beautiful" by Carole Jackson. Reading that book was a lightbulb moment for me. I finally realized WHY some colors looked good on me and some look bad.

It was a while before I actually got my color analysis done and learned my best colors (reasons: Covid and having a baby!) but once I did there was no turning back.

I soon wanted to know everything, and after asking around on Facebook and finding no local color analysts, I thought, hmm maybe this would be a fun business idea.

I started back in 2021 with color analysis training. I soon realized that I had SOOO MUCH MORE to learn- specifically about style. Thus in 2022, I started training as a stylist. I have gone on to complete further courses in style in 2023, 2024 and continue to do so to this day. (An expert never stops learning).

What launched as a color analysis business morphed into my current business as a personal stylist (who still does color analysis-- and even trains people to become color analysts).

My goal (and my WHY if you will), is to help people just like the pre-2021 version of me. Women who have tried EVERYTHING and still don't feel "styled." Especially professional women who have had kids and who have a lot of different areas of life to show up in-- and are sick of not feeling great in those areas (I'm looking at you school-pickup). I spent so long feeling self-conscious about what I wore until I learned what I now know and teach others today.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to chat more. Book a call with me here and let's talk about your style journey.

I look at this photo of me from 2018 and cringe. I wish I could go back in time and help that girl out.
